Contra Costa Electric provided installation services for a variety of low-voltage systems, as well as the construction of a new utility plant during an expansion project at John Muir Health’s campus in Walnut Creek, CA.
As a single-source provider of both low- and high-voltage systems, we were able to streamline the electrical installation work for the project and further increase efficiency by utilizing advanced BIM for service delivery planning and coordination.
Client Objectives
John Muir Health determined their Walnut Creek campus required a new, five-story, 242-bed, and 347,000-square-foot patient care tower, in order to expand their critical care, neonatal nursery, emergency, trauma, and surgery departments.
Solutions
During the project, we provided a full suite of electrical installation services, including:
- 3000-amp breaker
- 3000-amp emergency switchgear in new tower and all downstream distribution boards and panels
- New fire alarm systems, as well as the renovation the of medical campus’s existing system
- Switchgear ties into the medical campus’s existing gear
- Conduits for all other systems, including security, data, nurse call, and more

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek, is a 554-bed acute care facility, serving Contra Costa and portions of Solano counties. A part of the larger John Muir Health network of hospitals, the Center is considered one the region’s preeminent medical providers.
