John Muir Medical Center CONCORD, CA

Contra Costa Electric (CCE) delivered streamlined service for all switchgear and breaker installations, fire alarm system installation, and conduit installation for all other security, voice, and data systems. Their expert installation and use of BIM for service delivery planning helped keep all services on schedule. 


This is a new five-story hospital with basement - 172,370 square feet in total. The new tower consists of 49 medical/surgical beds and 12 ICU beds with a planned addition of 16-28 beds.

Scope of work included:
  • Installation of a new 21-kV switchgear to feed the new tower's 4000-amp main switchgear and all down stream distribution boards and panels
  • New 21-kV switchgear ties into the hospitals 21-kV gear to feed the existing John Muir Hospital
  • A new 3000-amp breaker was added the existing 6000-amp emergency backup switchgear in the central utility plant to feed a new 3000-amp emergency switchgear in the new tower and all down stream distribution boards and panels
  • A new fire alarm system was installed in the new tower and existing buildings "A & B" were remodeled with a updated fire alarm system tied into the existing system. CCE installed conduit only for all other systems such as security, data, nurse call, etc.
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) was used for coordination
